Most Underrated Anime Series To Watch

Most Underrated Anime Series To Watch: Most genres have popular anime recommendations. With so much anime, it’s easy to overlook some great gems.  I think most anime lovers would adore a lot of underrated shows. Or at least a few series that deserve an equal shot for dedicated anime fans. In the end, all we want is entertainment. Any good anime deserves more attention. Here are my suggestions for underrated anime across genres. Let’s have a look at the list of the Most Underrated Anime Series to Watch.

Mermaid’s Scar

Mermaid's scar

This romance animation horror narrative is based on Rumiko Takahashi’s stirring Mermaid Saga manga series and is influenced by Japanese mermaid legend. According to those myths, anyone who consumes mermaid flesh is given (or cursed with) immortality. But there’s also a negative side.

Some people who consume it lose their human shape. They frequently turn into monsters. The story of Mermaid’s Scar centers on Yuta and Mana, two nomads with personal ties to mermaids. They arrive in a new village where they hear whispers of an unexpected person who may have swallowed the magical flesh, upending their tranquil but tortured lives. Overall, Mermaid’s Scar is unlike anything else.

Thus Spoke Kishebe Rohan

Thus Spoke Kishebe Rohan

It’s difficult to express how much fun this JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures offshoot is. In case you missed it, Rohan is a fashionable mangaka who was originally featured in Diamond is Unbreakable, the third season of Jojo. So said Kishebe He has pulled away from that vast series by Rohan and dropped into a terrifying nightmare.

Each of Rohan’s stories is darkly humorous and offers a distinctive spin on established horror clichés. The over-the-top cartoonist and his recognizable sense of style are at its core. The main issue with this show is the lack of sufficient episodes.

Fortunately, he meets a stunning woman named Misaki who forces him to sign a contract promising to teach him how to function in society. When an old high school friend arrives into the flat next door, things take an even crazier turn. It’s a true tragicomedy masterpiece, Welcome to the N-H-K!

Summer Wars

Summer Wars - most underrated anime

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time director Mamoru Hosoda followed it up with this inventive 2009 story about a villainous ai technology and the high school kid who must stop it from wreaking havoc on the globe. We follow Kenji as he seeks to stop Love Machine, the sentient computer virus he unintentionally released while fusing the slice-of-life reality of growing up with exhilaratingly portrayed online action. This is a really enjoyable and innovative teen film that is supported by ground-breaking animation.

Robot Carnival

Robot Carnival - Most underrated anime

The robot carnival that serves as the film’s subtitle arrives in town in one of the most grandiose opening scenes ever created. Following that are some marvelously animated interpretations of Frankenstein, a cyborg romance in the City Pop style, the evolution of man, and other topics in this largely dialogue-free anthology.

This is a remarkable work of art that combines innovation with refinement, giving each observer something new to consider. With tales penned by Katsuhiro Otomo and music composed by legendary Studio Ghibli composer Joe Hisaishi, this is a true treat that will raise your standards for animation.

Memories, “Magnetic Rose”

Memories Magnetic Rose - Most underrated anime

Three science fiction tales were created by two of the finest directors of all time, Satoshi Kon and Katsuhiro Otomo, for this classic animation anthology. While it is worthwhile to watch the entire film, Magnetic Rose is the real star. It’s one of the most atmospheric and gorgeous space setting stories we’ve ever seen, directed by Kji Morimoto from a screenplay and story by Kon and Otomo, respectively.

In the furthest reaches of space, the Corona answers to a distress signal. When they arrive, they discover a stunningly decorated but distressingly deserted space station. Although the ghosts of its former owners still roam its hallways, there are other things that live there as well. Magnetic Rose is a creepy, beautifully animated anthology that is well worth watching.

Welcome To The Space Show

Welcome To The Space Show

Welcome to the Space Show, one of the best anime films of the decade, takes a Studio Ghibli-style story and drops it into the furthest reaches of space with psychedelic visuals. A group of kindergarteners travels to the wilderness to spend a few days in their abandoned school building.

It is customary for them to make the lovely and tranquil escape, but their leisurely days are disturbed when they come upon what appears to be an injured dog in the forest. After aiding the dog’s recovery, he reveals his true self: a space-traveling alien who leads them on an unforgettable adventure.

Super Crooks

Super Crooks - Most Underrated Anime

This anime series on Netflix was a little under the radar when it was launched in 2021, possibly due to its surprising origin acting as both a prequel and adaptation of a Jupiter’s Legacy spinoff comic. This comic was adapted into a Jupiter’s Legacy spinoff anime series. Millar and Lenil Yu’s Super Crooks is a sleek heist narrative in the vein of Ocean’s Eleven, and it’s significantly better than the live-action adaptation of that Mark Millar and Frank Quietly comic that was released on Netflix.

Our thieves, on the other hand, are some of the most heinous supervillains in the world, in contrast to the lovable outsiders who were the protagonists in that novel. The team, who is led by Johnny Bolt, a former want to be superhero turned supervillain, gets involved in a wide variety of criminal escapades while gradually finding their feet in the world of super-villainy as well as super-thievery.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

This dynamic adaptation of the same-named light novels is funny, sweet, and ridiculous; it is a show unlike any other. It centers on the title character, a freshman in high school who longs for more craziness in her life. When Kyon is placed next to Suzumiya on the first day of class, he unwittingly becomes entangled in a web of craziness.

Together, they established a group called the SOS Brigade to look for extraterrestrials, ESPers, and time travelers both inside and outside of their school. The three supernatural beings are closer than Haruhi and Kyon realize, and they are all very fascinated with Haruhi.

Godzilla Singular Point

Godzilla Singular Point

Although there are currently three canon Godzilla anime movies accessible to watch on Netflix, the highly cool kaiju adventure series Godzilla Singular Point is the one we’re going to focus on for this article. In the year 2030, the action takes place in Japan. A weird radio transmission pulls together a misfit group of children, who, with the assistance of one of their inventions.

Jet Jaguar, begin to unearth a secret realm filled with monsters. This is a fantastic science fiction frolic that will excite both new and old fans of Godzilla, the king of the monsters, as it features a number of the most renowned Toho kaiju alongside the fan-favorite beast that serves as the title character.

Gugure! Kokkuri-san

Gugure! Kokkuri-san

Just what makes Gugure! One of the reasons why Kokkuri-san is an underestimated piece of work is because it contains entertaining characters and a sufficient number of jokes and gags. Despite the fact that it is primarily a comedy, the show does contain a significant number of dramatic sequences throughout. Definitely, something to check out if you’re someone who can appreciate a good sense of humor.

Ushio and Tora

Ushio and Tora - Most Underrated Anime

There are several well-known elements here, including an unyielding hero and an unyielding love interest as well as some very dramatic action scenes. Even still, considering how ancient this anime is, its influence might not be as strong as you might expect.

Although it’s excellent that it has a lot of the classic shounen sensations, we already have a lot of great shounen pieces. This one stands out because it takes cliched characters and makes them actually function. At the very least, this will keep you entertained.  Even though it’s not unique, the series adds something special to the story of a little child discovering a strong spirit.

Final Thoughts

These series are obviously very successful for a very good reason, and that reason is that they have wonderful, thrilling stories as well as relatable, well-written characters, both of which help to keep the viewers interested in the story. You should definitely watch these underrated anime series.
