Behind the Scenes

Guiding the series into the anime realm, director Norihiko Nagahama, noted for his work on acclaimed series like “Black Butler” and “Gintama,” will helm the production at Studio A-Cat. Overseeing the narrative structure, Touko Machida brings her vast experience from titles like “The IDOLM@STER” to pen the scripts. The character designs will be brought to life by Masami Sueoka, enhancing the story’s visual appeal, while KOHTA YAMAMOTO sets the tone with his musical compositions, known from his works on “Attack on Titan Final Season” and “Kingdom.”

The Story Behind the Magic

The adaptation by Happinet focuses on the manga version, which itself is derived from the original light novel series. This intriguing tale revolves around Ike, a magician of unparalleled power in the demon lord’s army, who strikes terror into the hearts of friend and foe with his formidable magic. Unbeknownst to the demonic legions, Ike harbors a groundbreaking secret: his humanity. In a twist of fate, this human leader of demons dreams of harmony between humans and their perceived adversaries.

Ike, the demonic army’s “strongest magician,” is a solitary fortress conqueror.

His might in battle, mowing down enemies with extraordinary magic, earns him the label of “monster,” feared on all fronts.

Yet, he bears a secret he cannot share with his demon comrades.

“–I’m actually human.”

Striving for peace in a world where his true identity could trigger chaos, Ike stands in the eye of a potential storm, aiming for coexistence between two worlds that have long been at odds.

Introduced by Hata on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in February 2016, the latest installment appeared in November 2022. Futabasha further expanded the series’ horizons by publishing the fifth novel volume in April 2018.
