In Volume 3 of Spy x Family, Yor’s brother, Yuki arrives at his sister’s place to meet her husband. But he has no idea that his beloved husband has a secret identity and is actually a spy who works for Westalis secret service. Likewise Loid has no idea that Yuri also works for Ostanian secret service. The most obvious thing we witness here is that Yuri has a great sister complex and he is not in favor of sharing affection of his dearest sister. Good thing is that Anya slept through out this meeting and didn’t get to know about Yuri’s presence as it would have been a disaster if she would have revealed the life threatening thoughts in her uncle’s mind. But Twilight, being the best in his profession guessed the situation and cleverly took care of things verbally and luckily Yuri fall for his trap. Therefore, Twilight’s secret has not been revealed at.
But there hasn’t been much development in the main mission, Operation Strix as Anya is no way near getting close to Damian Desmond who is the younger son of Donovan Desmond, leader of the National Unity Party and Twilight’s target.
Anya’s fans will be happy as they will get to see the youngest and most adorable main character’s fabulously eccentric reactions many times in this volume and finally her peculiar telepathic power comes handy as it has been quite problematic in the past. Anya has decided like many other children what she wants the most and that is a dog. Let’s see if the forger family will get her a pet dog.
Casey Loe has done a tremendous job in expressing the uprising complex reactions of the main characters while they try their best to stay cool and calm on the outside. Yor seems to be calm with her smiling face while saying ‘right things’ but her brain is not as calm as she looks and from the inside she is in the state of panic. The chapter ‘Yuri meets Loid’ is so far the best in terms of comic writing and illustration in the manga. Everything is calculated and balanced when it comes to the reactions of the characters that makes it hilarious.
Rina Mapa has also done a great job as letterer which also include touch-up art. The action scenes are as usual mind blowing and captivating especially the dinner scene where Yuri is introduced to Loid which was the most appealing scenes
The bonus Secret Bonus in this Volume was Yor’s Week in Fashion which was kind of cute and How Yor Does Her Hair: Revealed! But Extra Mission 2 includes the entire story about Yor and Loid’s date in which Yor has no idea that she is injured at the place which is quite embarrassing and painful, while on an assassination mission and the outcome of the decision that Anya and her babysitter, Franky – who also happens to be Loid’s assistant – made together to shadow them.
The best part about Spy x Family which also makes it hilarious is the fact that the members of forger family that almost looks like a real loving family has not revealed their true identity to each other. Anya being the youngest and an innocent child is the only one who has innocently revealed her abilities but unfortunately those abilities are considered as childish imaginations and fantasies, so nobody will pay attention to it even if she tries to tell anyone. Nonetheless we all root for all the members of the forger family regardless of how ruthless the adults of this family are, and the credit goes to the great mind of Tatsuya Endo as a writer. Despite of all the lies they all keep telling to each other, we want this family to achieve their mission. When Loid was urged to kiss Yor by Yuri to prove his love for her, we wanted to see that happen. Did that kiss happen? Find out in manga Spy x Family Volume 3.
