In/Spectre Episode 1 – Review

The first episode of In/Spectre was very interesting. There is not too much comedy or too much seriousness which makes it enjoyable. Everything was shown in a way that left me in surprise like threat of Kuro or Kotoko’s godly nature. It was good.

Both the main characters have dual personalities. They both tries to maintain their deadly roles in the different world while living an ordinary lives of students in the real world.

At first the romance felt a bit awkward to me but later it actually made sense and a mature relationship with a  little flirting. Kotoko is a goddess but in real world she truly is a high school student. There wasn’t many powers that she probably possess were shown in this particular episode but one where she is able to communicate with ayakashi. It’s doesn’t seem the right thing to call her the goddess as according to the lore she lost her eye and leg but that was rather to be a conduit of the real gods. She is rather an adored mediator who is respected by yokai. It’s hard to believe that hoe are they able to manage all this at such a young age of 11 and 17. But probably we will get to know that in the future. Her maturity makes sense and it’s the romantic element that keeps her high goddess rank hidden.

In/Spectre Episode 1 – Review

The part where Kuro being innocent after getting his limb removed is a little odd to me. He seems like emotionless at the end. But he is also seriously in love with and was guilty for helping Kotoko. Probably that is something induced by yokai. We will hopefully get to learn more about him eating those kids.

On the lighter note, it’s funny how the goat was praised. Initially it felt a little awful but later it actually made sense. Goats are actually cool. She is just a kid and a goddess and that is awesome.

The scene of Kappa in the river made me think about Srazanmai. I expected the transformation scene. That way we could make sense why Saki left. If I was in that place and witnessed my S/O not changed a bit after being eaten and ejected by a weird creature and I don’t even think Kuro made the wrong decision of escaping. If I was in his place I would have done the same without thinking twice.

Overall, it was an amusing episode. It has all those elements that is interesting enough and is also quite funny. I’m interested to see more about the world of yokai. There are so many different creatures to be compared from each other. There is Kotoko’s silly assistant then there are adorable creatures and then at the and there was the humongous creature who seemed scary.
