5 Best Moments in Babylon

Babylon is the anime adaptation of a novel series, written by Mado Nozaki.  Set in a fictional city of japan, Babylon is a political thriller anime that depicts some real-world social issues that are faced in Japan which is not seen in many anime. One of the major issue that this anime portrays is the problem of suicide that is getting bigger in Japan. Here are the 5 best scenes of Babylon.

Debate of Lagalizing Suicide (Episode 6)

Suicide is one of the most important subject of Babylon and the debate about suicide and making it legal is portrayed in the episode 6. The negative and positive points mentioned in the scene are all realistic. The debate takes place among various politicians that speak on behalf of their respective parties, to oppose the idea of legalizing suicide introduced by the mayor of Shiniki, Kaika Itsuki.

One politician shares his point of view about how it can badly effect economy, other states how it can affect society and then one politician discuss human factor saying this law would not be effective. Kaika debates every view point with logic. According to him legalizing suicide will decrease it instead of increasing it as people would be able to talk about it openly rather hiding it.

The Power of Ai Magase (Episode 5)

AI Magase is the main antagonist of the series. She is the reason why many men committed in the series as they kill themselves after meeting her. She can make them do anything she likes and in addition to that she has a great ability to disguise according to the environment. Seizaki is doubtful towards her from the start and investigates her. He meets her uncle who tells him about her power of manipulating men.  Her uncle has been a victim of her power when was his patient and a teenager. It’s not known how she does that but it’s probably her looks that seduced men and they think that she raped them and now she uses the same power to make them commit suicide.

Jumping Off Skycraper (Episode 3)

The debate which occurs in episode 6 is related to the climax of episode 3 when many people gather on the roof of the skyscraper and commits suicide together. Right before the suicides of this group of people Itsuki appears on TV and declares the new law of legalizing the law and that is why he is the one who started this debate. The scene is also important because it is possible that he is the one who made this happened to prove his point. One thing which is certain is that Seizaki spots Ai smiling at him, in the crowd while it happened. The people who commit suicide were all seemed in the state of trance.

Fumio’s Death (Episodes 1 & 2)

The first shocking event occurred in this series that led to other events was the suicide of Seizaki’s partner, Fumio. Fumio was tasked to investigate some alleged suicide cases and he was chasing a potential lead without any assistance. Fumio was determined to follow justice that made Seizaki believe that he was not planning to kill himself. The opinions that Fumio shared in his last conversation with Seizaki, he was certain that he had no reason to commit suicide. His strange death led to the scenario that shows that thigs that led to his death were on purpose.

Itsuki’s Son (Episodes 6 & 7)

During the debate regarding suicide, a politician brings boy who is the son of a man who wants to commit suicide. He states that suicide can affect families as this boy is very young and if his father dies with his own will it would affect this boy and his family. Since there is no age limit for a candidate to run for the parliament, that boy turns out to be running for the office. In a really strange twist it is revealed that the boy is Itsuki’s son and he planning to kill himself to donate his heart to the boy as he is suffering from a heart illness. He justifies his debate with this point.  But it could also be a way to become powerful.

The scenes were very realistic and relatable not just for the Japanese but non-Japanese as well. Suicide has the same affect in any district or country of the world and so things portrayed in the series are not just relate to Japan.
