My Hero Academia s4 – eps 9&10 Review

I’ll say once more what I said in Tamaki’s episode, the most special and interesting thing about season is how they are able to showcase character development. First, we watched Kirshima shine, then an episode dedicated to Tamaki and its past. Now we get League of villains but I will take my time discussing it in depth, but first, let’s focus on Kirishima and he managed to become one of the loved characters in the student’s category.

When episode seven was about to end, we saw concise flashback to his days when he was in middle school. In this episode, divided from the other group, Fatgum and Kirishima have to face against a strong opponent who has only one objective in mind which is to battle till one of them dies, during this we get a detailed flashback of his middle school years. Which showed how he underestimated himself, and though he doesn’t have a chance to become an impactful hero because not only was his abilities meaningful but also how fearful he was. There was one hero he was super inspired with, Crimson Riot. In his interview he confessed he was fearful in the beginning too and the most shameful time in his life was the day when he was unable to save someone because he hesitated.

Kirishima is facing very similar situation.

So Kirishima worked hard and adjust his appearance but in his heart he still feel he has that fear in him and when situation becomes tougher in the battle of Fatgum versus muscle head, Kirishima aids him in battle and acts as the barrier for muscle head attacks then Fatgum sends them flying with his finishing blow. Being acknowledged not only by the pro hero but also the villain they were up against.

‘We both underestimated the hero known as Red Riot.’ those were words of Fatgum and it was really amazing. Not only this but also the bold moves he made earlier in the episode that got him stuck with Fatgum and the Hassikai attendants. Risking his life to rescue Eraserhead without knowing the outcome. In a nutshell, this episode is dedicated to Kirishima being the best kid hero but Tokoyami has a special place in my heart.

Then there is episode ten. As the heroes keep advancing, Overhaul has no choice but to deploy something special he got on loan from Shigaraki. Two members of the league of villains. Himiko Toga and Twice, two of my favorite characters from the League.

Now let’s move onto the next episode. As the heroes keep progressing deeper into the place, Overhaul plays his trump cards which was to use the member of the league of villains. Himiko Toga and Twice which are best character from the group. The Hassaikai villain that was reconstructing the structure of that area since the start divides the group that was chasing after Mirio. They divide them so the two new recruiters can join them in the fight. Twice against Nighteye along with the police and Himiko against Rock Lock. Rock Lock is easily taken down by Himiko but his voice was heard by Aizawa and Midoriya who were stuck in the other side of the wall. Midoriya smashes the wall and finds two Rock Lock, Aizawa mindfulness comprehends the situation and he soon realizes the involvement of league of Villains and their corporation with Hassaikai.

In the same time, Nighteye showing who is the boss here to twice who was unsuccessful in even scratching him and gets hit by Nighteye. Both the league member has no choice but to fall back.

I’ll list down the best moments of the episode which I think were stood out.

  1. The board game scene: Anyone who has been following me will know that how much I despise the board games as an explaining tool. There is nothing more hateful than seeing chess as a tool for explaining the situation and since Shogi is also a board game similar to chess, the feelings are mutual. So while Overhaul is describing his master plan using Shogi as a metaphor, Shigaraki being really bad ass and turning him down to his challenge in the game.
  2. Personality of Twice: He is by far the best League of Villain characters for me, I absolutely love his character and this episode is the best example for to give that reason. One line is enough to explain why he is the best ‘I may be a villain, but I’m still human.’ he’s is a really considerate person and still takes responsibility for the cause of his partner’s death. Because it was his fault to bring Overhaul to meet with Shigaraki. He is still depressed about it and to be honest everyone is upset about it.
  3. Moving back to Shigaraki. He is not the type who would be convince so easily and bend down for another group and he is also not willing to risk lives of his crew members by letting Hassaikai group using them to help them carry out their plan. He is also not going to force Twice and Himiko for helping the people they despise without enticement. But he didn’t agree to Hassaikai terms from the beginning, although he showed to him he did but his true objective is to investigate from the group from the inside and learn as much as they can. With that in mind they also get to enjoy their time by trash talking about Hassaikai members in front of them.

Which afterwards we also witness it with our eyes. Where the both of them starts disrespecting the Hassaikai member. This scene is so amazing, the voice acting, the dialogues, the animation. Everything about it as they humiliate and taunt to the point they tilts the guy into destroying the building is incredible! This scene was the best of the season so far.

These two episodes were wonderful, but as we move forward the situation gets tougher and tougher. Mirio is about to crash into Overhaul in the next episode, can Eri be rescued? Will he be able hold on while his teammates arrives
