In every supernatural and fantasy anime a wizard or a mage has this powerful ability to call certain supernatural entities to assist them wither in a battle or some sort of for some other reason. They help them fight against the enemies. Some of those very common creatures that we have seen with withes or wizard are black cat, an owl or a raven. It’s kind of a fundamental thing in a magical anime especially for girls where they ae accompanied by some cute animals that everyone wants to hug and kiss. While in some anime these entities are humans with supernatural powers that suits the wizard who summon them.
In the world of Fate, the wizards have their own servants who are the historical heroes. Their battles in Holy Grail Wars are impressive and have brought some big positive changes in the world. And though they are some wonderful and thrilling series which will boost you up, it can be a little puzzling for people who haven’t seen them. So, we have made a list that can help the newcomers to get familiar with the concept and then they can get thrilled with Fate/Grand Order: Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia. Juuni Taisen (Juni Taisen: Zodiac War)
If you have one wish in exchange of something you can do, what that would be? After interval of every 12 years, 12 soldiers are called by an enigmatic organization to fight to death. The one who live through this 12 hours battle will end up with a prize and that prize is the wish. A wish for anything. But in order to get a wish fulfilled, the warriors have to, literally put their lives at stake. Every fighter devours a ‘Beast Gem’. It is a kind of poison that is meant to kill them in a given time. The only way to survive it is to win against all the other warriors against them. All fighters are given the names of the Chinese Zodiac who have to win the battle if they want to live.
There is no such thing as summoning other entities for the fight like in Fate/Grand Order Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia. But some warriors have somewhat magical powers. For example Rabbit can raise the dead in the form of zombies and Chicken have control over birds. It’s the outcome of experiments. The fights in the Juuni Taisen are not as epic as in Fate/Grand Order Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia but if you are into fierce battles, then Junni Taisen is for you.
Soul Eater
The job Death is hard. Inorder to assist him to protect the underworld from the evil forces, Lord Death has formed the DeathWeapon Meister Academy where those humans are brought up who have the ability to change themselves into a weapon. They work with Shinigami to become Death Sythes one day which can be achieved only after finishing 99 cruel souls and witch. Evan is that hybrid human weapon who works with Meister Maka Albam who aims to be the greatest Meister of all in the entire world.
Soul Eater is a very interesting shounen anime with some wonderful characters who have great powers. The story is captivating enough to make us stick to it till the end like Fate/Grand Order: Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia. Watching Meisters with their weapons is as amusing as watching mages with their servants since it’s hard to find such pair that have no conflicts. In both shows the fortune of the earth is at stakes and that is the cherry on top in both stories of magical companionships.
07 – Ghost
Some people in Barsburg Empire have a magical power called Zaiphon that can be used to fight. The warriors are taught in an exclusive academy where they are ranked according to the level of their Zaiphon. Teito Klein is also the student of this academy but belong to a slave family background unlike other students who are from elite families. Teito has forgotten his past but when he get some of his memories back, he remembers that his father was murdered by one of these upper class officials, Teito attempts to murder that person and gets arrested. But he escapes from jail by the help of his friend and tries to learnmore about his past in the seventh district.
The story of 07 – Ghost is very intriguing which becomes more interesting as the plot moves further. There are a lot of interesting things like Ghosts, arranged marriage and a lost empire. The Ghosts are the protectors of Church and the empire and are the sealers of the old evil but their method of protecting is different as they erase the memories if needed. The revelation of complicated backstory is what makes this series somewhat similar to as Fate/Grand Order Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia. 07-Ghosts gradually reveals its world and how big are the risks in the battles.
Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler)
In the beginning Sebastian Michaelis seems to be the perfect butler that is hired by a young boy who recently became orphan. He is focused, great cook and efficient and can handle any enemy that his master have. Ciel Phantomhive has many enemies as is the lone survivor of an incident that killed the Phantomhive family, who is the owner of the biggest toy and candy company. The family is also ‘The Queen Guar Dog’ as he is responsible for dealing with the enemies of the throne. Obviously, Sebastian is not human, he is a demon that is called by Ciel to avenge his family and once the work is done, the demon will eat him.
Black Butler is the story about revenge and what it can cost. There is no doubt abuot the sad ending of the anime because even if the season continues because after the deed is finished Ciel’s soul will be eaten by Sebastian. What sad is that Ciel is just a kid who has a lot to live for and can have a future. We learn that that it’s not just his family’s demise that fills his heart with hatred for the world. It’s a dark story about having demons by the side to fight against some ancient enemies and it is what you should definitely watch if you like Fate/Grand Order Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)
You wouldn’t want to miss chance of getting magical powers. With countless features like protecting your friends from danger, incredible magic powers, cool costumes, unique weapons and bring peace to the world. And not to mention you don’t even need to give something in return to get these powers but more so you even get to fulfil a desire before the battle begins. This opportunity seems unlikely to happen, right? Well, Madoka Kaname thought the same when this opportunity was given to her by a cute creature, a mix between a cat and a rabbit names Kyuubey. Sayaka becomes a magical girl in order to protect her lover’s hands, in her journey she also meets another magical girl named Homura, who enlightens her about the risks of asking a wish, Madoka soon realizes that there is more to all the description Kyuubey gave to her.
Mahou Shoujo Madoka ★ Magica present elements that you won’t find in another anime. Devil will not let there be a happy ending, despite the devil appears as a cute fluffy toy, you always dream about having and making the devil look like that is more brutal then portraying actual devil. All Kyuubey wants is to make the girls fall into despair through the result of their own wishes that is his true goal. Though the design and appearance of the anime may seem cute and friendly but don’t judge a book by its cover, this show is darker than most dark fantasies out there.
Rozen Maiden
Jun Sakurada gathers cursed items with the wish of grabbing one which is actually effective. Jun’s true motive for this mission is complicated to grasp, but he is depressed of his life and he is stuck in his home. Until he gets his hands on a pretty doll that comes to being, calling herself Shinku. She becomes the master of Jun and he has to assist her in Alice Game. At first Jun does not agrees with everything Shinku says because of her personality and the settings, but he is forced to accept when a joker tends to murder them, he accepts her conditions and decides to assist in the Alice Game.
If you are a fan of Fate/Grand Order Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia then you should definitely watch Rozen Maiden, even though it is the oldest show in the list. The bonds between the servant and master in Rozen Maiden is somewhat similar that we observe between Heroes and Mages in Fate/Grand Order, with the difference that the anime is set in the present. Alice Game reward is not something that effects the world, the winner will be granted to become a normal human being, but since the dolls are very likable characters we will still feel sad for all their hardships. Trust us, you won’t regret watching it.
One thing common in all these stories is magic comes with a price. Greater the power of the magic, will have the worst of the consequence that will have to be endured by the person who asked for that magic. While all these series are all set in a fantasy world with supernatural creatures and powers, the sufferings, cost of revenge and hatred can all be related to the real world.
