5 Hilarious Moments of Anime That Were not in the Manga

Although, practically a manga is more original in every possible way to its anime counterpart (manga fans will always believe that), in some cases the adaptation introduces a different arc to the plot to make things interesting. In this review, we will be discussing few of the most entertaining scenes from famous anime that were either augmented from the source material or were written separately from the manga. Let’s get into it!

Gohan’s Tricks as the Great Saiyaman −Dragon Ball Z

The original manga didn’t had much scenes of Gohan’s Kamen Rider-esque vigilante appearance but in the anime he has many moments to shine. When Gohan was studying in high school, Bulma gave him the suit of the “Great Saiyaman” so he can use his powers to protect the citizens from evil and fight crime. Videl, who was studying in his class, doubted Gohan’s secret identity and immediately learns about it in the Toriyama’s manga, but in anime things are little different, Gohan is able to avoid suspicion for more episodes. He rescues a pterodactyl from a festival, ruins the studio of film being produced about him, gets threatened into hanging out with a girl he hates… sure, unlike to see something in Dragon Ball Z franchise, but better than seeing Gohan staying a nerd forever!

Deku Rehearses His All Might Look −Boku no Hero Academia  Season 4

Deku is the biggest fan of All Might and the most inspired person from All Might is Deku himself—there isn’t any information related to All Might that Deku isn’t aware of, he owns every rare item merchandise, copies every single word All Might says and can even replicate his smile! The scene in the manga where Deku makes his attempt to entertain Sir Nighteye just points out that Deku is struggling to imitate his smile from the start, but in anime they actually shows flashbacks of Deku rehearsing in front of the mirror, steadily transforming his face into All Mights hugely shaded cowboy style hero smirk. This was something we didn’t even imagine to see, but we are glad and can’t get over it.

Abbacchio Drinks Wine Before a Fight −JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken: Ougon no Kaze

The part in Venice where Narancia and Mista beat some random mean person into a pulp because according to them he’s a senseless classic in its own right, but the anime adaptation includes some element that makes it even more entertaining. The most senior person in the crew and resident grouch Abbacchio heavily watches as his two crew members beating a person in the street, enjoys his glass of wine… and then suddenly accompanies them in the act. That plain and short jest improves the quality of that comic scene!

Osaka the Knife-Wielding Psycho −Azumanga Daioh

Azumanga Daioh is an adaptation of four-panel comedy manga, which is a form of manga that doesn’t do a good job at lengthy jokes that depends on suspense and buildup. So, the part where Osaka unintentionally wakes up Yukari-sensei grabbing a knife which was supposed to be a frying pan is a bit hilarious in the manga, it’s intensely more funny in the adaptation where it extends and acts out like a Hitchcockian scare. When the camera slowly moves and steadily reveals the knife with the infinite jump cuts between the poor scared Yukari-sensei and Osaka are the elements in anime only that builds this scene as one of the hilarious ones we have witness!

The Tale of the Amanojaku −Dororo

This remade edition of Osamu Tezuka’s 1969 manga is in contrast with the true version that the entire show except for the actual story design and characters can relate to anime-only, unlike episode 19 which is entirely original spin-off story that pays a visit to the manga’s hilarious origins without actually effecting the new dramatic storyline. Hyakkimaru unintentionally gets engaged to girl who resides in a place where people are unable to speak the opposite of what they intended, and Dororo struggles to solve this problem before the situation gets worse. Dororo’s flustered bravado and Hyakkimaru’s social awkwardness cannot play this scene any more hilariously, which was also very important keeping in mind all the suffering that comes in the final five episodes
