The Essence of ‘Hirayasumi’

The narrative of “Hirayasumi” centers around Hiroto Ikuta, a 29-year-old who embodies a carefree lifestyle. Despite lacking a girlfriend, full-time employment, or a clear life path, Hiroto’s laid-back demeanor is admirable to some and baffling to others. In a world rife with stress and uncertainty, Hiroto and his friends are on a quest to navigate the complexities of life.

Celebrating Milestones and Recognitions

Shinzō expressed his joy regarding the anime adaptation with an illustration and a heartfelt message, stating his excitement to see both the anime and the forthcoming drama. Since its debut in Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits magazine in April 2021, the manga has achieved remarkable success. With its ninth book volume scheduled for release and over 1.1 million copies in circulation worldwide, “Hirayasumi” has captivated a vast audience.

Awards and Nominations

The manga’s literary prowess was recognized when it was nominated for the 15th Manga Taisho awards in January 2022. It also secured an impressive rank #18 in Takarajimasha’s “Kono Manga ga Sugoi!” guidebook for 2023 and was nominated for the 27th Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in February 2023.

Expanding the ‘Hirayasumi’ Universe

In addition to Viz Media’s licensing and publication, Denpa has agreed to publish Shinzō’s “Holiday Junction,” a collection of seven one-shot manga stories. This expansion of Shinzō’s work promises to offer fans even more engaging content.

Anticipation for the Live-Action Adaptation

Adding to the excitement, the manga is also inspiring a live-action television series. As confirmed by Comic Natalie, NHK will broadcast the series this fall. It will be a daily 15-minute segment each evening from Monday to Thursday at 10:45 p.m. in the “Yoru Dra” (Evening Drama) block.

Final Thoughts

The collaboration between Viz Media and Shogakukan marks a significant milestone for “Hirayasumi.” The upcoming anime and live-action series are set to expand the story’s reach, reaching audiences worldwide. As Hiroto Ikuta’s journey unfolds, both long-time fans and newcomers will undoubtedly find resonance in his relatable pursuit of happiness amidst life’s challenges.
